9731 Boston Globe Newspaper 1905 insert paper toy fisherman Sloan & Woodward NYCExcellent condition. Printed on trade card weight stock. Blank reverse.
I am calling this a paper toy on the guess that because it was a cut-out and to be assembled, it was geared toward a child's use.
As a sales inducement, the Boston Globe put one of these cards into its Sunday newspaper as a giveaway. On the right upper border is given the title of the next week’s picture, in this case, “Can’t You Talk”. Thus the tension of anticipation was created as a means of being sure to remember to buy next Sunday’s newspaper.
This piece is somewhat a paper toy in that its intention was for the frame to be cut out and then assembled into a 3 dimensional picture frame. Sloan & Woodward of NYC, were the creators of this format.
